BBTA Short Course: Cerebellar Ataxia

With Ann Holland – Bobath Tutor

Course Description:

This one day course aims to augment participants knowledge and skills and will focus on rehabilitation for people with cerebellar ataxia, reviewing aspects of neuroanatomy and neurophysiology.

Participants will develop their clinical reasoning skills through a patient workshop and practical sessions aimed at enhancing clinical effectiveness.

The course will provide participants with the opportunity to review the current evidence base as well as identify and modify existing knowledge in relation to practice based on the Bobath concept.

Completion of the BBTA Introductory Course: Human Movement Analysis as a Basis of Clinical Intervention is recommended.

Course Objectives:

• To consider the clinical signs and symptoms of cerebellar ataxia and the relevant neuroanatomy and pathophysiology
• To provide an overview of the therapeutic evidence base
• To link theory to the clinical presentation
• To explore aspects of clinical practice, treatment options and outcome measurement

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course participants will have:

1. Examined current thinking about the pathophysiology and therapeutic management of people with cerebellar ataxia.
2. Identified and modified knowledge in relation to their own clinical practice.
