South West ACPIN continues to be busy as a region with new members joining us and a range of weekend and evening events.
In April we ran a very successful two-day Vestibular course in Plymouth with Alan Healy.
In May we held an evening lecture on Charcot-Marie-tooth disease (CMT) at UWE with guest speaker Rebekah Knight, a physiotherapist from Wales. We also had two patient representatives who shared their experiences.
In June we ran a two-day ‘Translating Research into Clinical Practice’ balance course with tutor Krishna Gundapudi which was well received.
A few of us on the committee had an interesting evening looking around the Robotics laboratory at UWE in June, whilst we helped a local PhD student with a focus group for her research project into social robots.
Our summer social evening event is currently being planned and will hopefully include a research overview on FACETS (Fatigue management programme in MS).
Future events planned are ranging from Later Life training to acute/early management of the minimally conscious patient. We would also like to consider brain injury assessment, a gait course and repeating a practical Pilate’s course which has previously been very popular.
Twitter has been a new development for us this year so we are embracing this now! Please follow us @ACPIN_SW
