South West ACPIN continues to be busy as a region organising a range of events recently. Our committee has remained steady and we have welcomed two new members, Professor Jon Marsden and Jude Fewings to the sub-committee in the south of the region.
Our membership is also continuing to grow and it has been wonderful to see ongoing commitment to events and many new faces too!
Recent events have included our AGM (2016) which focused on the shoulder in stroke; use of Lycra sleeve and diagnostic ultrasound. We held a summer hydrotherapy evening in Wiltshire, a popular Neuro Pilates day course in Taunton and our Christmas evening lecture was looking at theories/concepts around Neuroplasticity which prompted lots of discussion.
In January we held a Bobath focused incomplete spinal cord course with Sue Armstrong at the University West of England. This was a very successful weekend course.
Future events in the diary include a two–day Vestibular course in Plymouth in April which we are running again as it proved so popular previously and a Balance course in Bristol planned for June 2017.
Other ideas include Fitness training/Later Life training with a focus on neurology, treatment of the minimally conscious patient and research updates from local colleagues on Stroke and MS.
We have used web-ex on a couple of occasions to help with communication across our full committee and are keen to continue to use this going forward.
We have also been pleased to continue our raffle which helps fund two lucky members a place to ACPIN’s International conference.
Thank you for all your ongoing support for ACPIN in your region. Please feel free to contact us with any ideas, suggestions or feedback.
