The Northern Ireland ACPIN regional committee have continued to work hard to engage the regional membership in events. This year we were involved in two multi-professional events.
In April we we welcomed Sally Glover, a clinical specialist physiotherapist in facial rehabilitation, to Belfast to deliver a highly practical and informative course on the acute and advanced management of facial palsy. This was attended by both physiotherapy and speech and language therapy colleagues.
In November, we had the opportunity to promote ACPIN at the international ReSport conference on sport and exercise rehabilitation and everyday living for young people and adults with disabilities. As well as AHPs, this was attended by colleagues from psychology, community organisations, sports governing bodies and exercise professionals. Our committee member, Shona Pryde, spoke on the benefits and overcoming barriers to sport in rehabilitation from a neurophysiotherapy perspective. This was a great opportunity to promote our profession and to build networks with potential partners in neurological rehabilitation outside of the health service.
Siobhan Macauley stepped down as Chair and we’d like to thank her for her hard work and enthusiasm which we were delighted to see rewarded with an ACPIN Distinguished Service Award. Dr Katy Pedlow takes over as Chair and we are excited for next year’s events.
at the time of writing we are looking to strengthen our links with higher education and we have planned four study mornings at the Ulster University campus. Our topics are:
• Neurological assessment
• Movement disorders
• Respiratory management of neurological conditions
Dates for 2018 are Saturday 12th May, Saturday 15th September and Saturday 24th November with the last one on Saturday 2nd February 2019.
We are also looking at an event exploring concussion management beyond the sports field.
As always, we welcome comments, suggestions and requests from our members.
