2016 has been a busy year for the Northern ACPIN Regional committee. We have welcomed Deborah Harrison and Kathy Jackson onto the committee.
In April 2016, an event was held at a local Gait Laboratory, looking at how the technology can support research and clinical intervention. In July an evening seminar was given on research related to mitochondrial disease and neuromuscular disorders. This was followed up with two events in the autumn; an introduction to the theory of hydrotherapy in neurology and an overview of the management of spasticity. Unfortunately, a seminar on intrathecal baclofen was cancelled due to poor uptake.
2017 has started with an evening seminar on Spinal Cord Injuries at the Regional Spinal Injuries Centre, James Cook University Hospital. This included a presentation from a Paralympic athlete and a seminar on the management of the ageing patient with a spinal injury.
In May we had a fantastic evening seminar with Jill Kings, who provided us with an update on Constraint Induced Movement Therapy.
The committee members are busy confirming our future events. These events will be advertised once speakers/dates/venues have been confirmed.
